One Thing Is Needed - The Unum Necessarium

Catholic Communities of Prayer is a ministry devoted to getting people to pray and getting people to pray well. Jesus told Martha that, “only one thing is needed.” CCOP’s ministry is in direct response to the Lord’s command of the one thing necessary: prayer. If prayer is truly is the ONE THING needed we must answer the call with our time, with our lives, and with our finances. Now is the time for the Church to truly become a “house of prayer for all nations.”
Prayer Ministries are the Only Ministries Needed:
Out of all the activities and ministries in the Church, calling the faithful to the place of prayer and then teaching them how to pray is the most important task we have. Not only is it the most important, but the Lord also said that it is the only one needed. Catholic Communities of Prayer is here to answer this call.
Survey on Prayer in the Church:
The necessity of prayer and training in prayer has simply been ignored in the Church in recent times. In 2009, a survey was done to find out what ministries Catholic Dioceses are supporting.
- The survey reviewed 92 different Diocesan Appeal Campaigns from the 32 Archdioceses in the United States.
- The survey looked to see what were all the ministries that were financially supported by their Diocesan Appeal Campaigns.
- A total of 1,972 ministries, offices, services, and organizations were reviewed.
Results of the Survey:
- The results of the survey where shocking. There was not a single prayer ministry found that was supported by a Diocesan Appeal Campaign. None. Not a single one.
- No parish perpetual Eucharistic adoration support ministries, no ministries for perpetual praise to God, no intercessory prayer ministries, and no schools or institutes to train the faithful in the art of prayer.
